A Study on Personal Relationship of Male Students in Early Adolescene

Abstract
Various and outstanding heterogeneous phenomena have been happening to Korean middle? school students since the spring semester of 1969 when the system of admission without entrance examination was adopted. The purpose of this study is to make a research in a group guidance for maladjusted students in early adolescence to personal relationship.
Multiple-factor sociometric questionaire, which was prepared based on the suggestion of Northway, was given to 839 students of X middle school in Seoul. 39 students who received the highest points of rejection were selected and again from the number of the students 2o boys were randomly chosen so that the training might easily be undertaken.
Their rejected reasons by fellow students are as follows:
1. They are likely to attack others physically and in bad and vicious language.
2. They cause the feeling of repugnance to others.
3. They are mean and vulgar in personality and character.
4. They are lack of cooperative spirit and consideration to others.
The method of Sensitivity Training was adopted and the training was performed six times in all; two times a week. The teachers in charge of classe were told to praise the trainees for their good behaviour and merits whereas the teachers might overlook their bad behaviour or demerits.
Every trainee was given the task of recording his daily behavioural reflection on "Table of Amending Demerits." The trainees were very much interested in the training and even anxious to wait for the training scheduled date inspite of the fact that they were already informed of the program in advance.
The task of recording behavioural reflection imposed on the students showed most desirable result and the teachers in charge of classes acknowledged the students¢¥ changed behaviour and all the students except three made tremendously improved marks at class.
Whether the rejected students will continue to show their better behaviour and improve school marks or they will return to original state once the training period is over uncertain. The follow-up study will be necessary to confirm the effect.
The students are, however, conscious of their personal relationship and the consciousness will adjust their behaviour to the better and more desirable. As the rejected were male students in their early adolescence this training may not be generalized to all persons but the recognition of personal relationship through the training will bring about the changed behaviour and good result.
